The Infamous About Page.

mann.

Well, this is my about me page. I’m naturally a formal writer so I can honestly say (or type) that I don’t really know what to do here. I’m a freshman at the University of Florida. This blog is actually a part of my ENC 1101 class. It’s pretty fun. I will admit it has definitely opened up new perspectives for me and improved my writing as a whole. As you are reading or skimming my blog you are probably thinking why plastic surgery or why cosmetic procedures. The topic was a last minute decision. I was planning on doing a blog about religion, but seeing as I am relatively new to its concept I chose to expand my knowledge on a less controversial pop culture issue. I have been exposed to cosmetic surgery my whole life. I have several friends who have had their nose’s straightened, breasts uplifted, a whole variety of surgeries. When I was younger, about eleven or so, I had my mind set on getting my nose fixed. Even my own mother was alright with that type of thinking. She told me word for word, “I can’t fix your nose but I can fix your teeth,” when allowing to me have braces when I turned fourteen. After hopefully getting my nose shaped into something average I thought my next step would be to get my breasts done and if the wallet could take it maybe some lipo. Honestly, looking back I feel like I was being irrational and pretty much just stupid. My senior year of high school I wrote a paper, influenced by Catch-22,  about the insanity of American society with underlying issues of plastic surgery becoming the norm as well as an assortment of other ideas. Given the opportunity now, I wanted to figure out what really drove me as an eleven year old to want work done to my natural body. I’ve recently learned about the three means of rhetoric and how they are used in advertisement today which has led me to analyzing commercials, ads, flyers and so on and so forth that influence people to want plastic surgery. My main idea behind this blog is to help me and those with similar views as me to understand these types of advertising and why exactly they are so influential.
